Or is it impossible to check if file exists on parent directory ?, 1 Do you have permission to look in that directory? I don't see why this shouldn't work. What is the result exactly? Do you get an error, or it executes the else-branch when the file exists? – user1544337 Jan 22 '15 at 21:42 ,I was wondering why I can't check if file exists on parent directory (not from root and not from upper directories), With enough copper wire, can I attach one end to one side of a 9V battery, then circle the earth and connect it back?

Today I ran into the same problem. I had a MVC handler within the folder

(app root) / mvc(/controller.php)

(The ".." indicates the "parent directory") , nativename ....... Returns the native name of the file/directory , executable ..... Returns 1 if file is executable by user , writable ............ Returns 1 if file is writeable by user

For instance to refer to a file in a directory upwards of the current one:

set upfile[file join ".."
   "myfile.out"]
# upfile will have the value "../myfile.out"

If the file system and files remain static, then this method implements an equivalence relation for non-null Paths. , If this method fails, then it may do so after creating some, but not all, of the parent directories., When an implementation supports operations on entries in the directory that execute in a race-free manner then the returned directory stream is a SecureDirectoryStream. , When an implementation supports operations on entries in the directory that execute in a race-free manner then the returned directory stream is a SecureDirectoryStream.

At the top is the root directory that holds everything else. We refer to it using a slash character, /, on its own; this character is the leading slash in /Users/nelle.,Directories can also store other directories, which then form a directory tree.,Directories can also store other directories, which then form a directory tree. ,There is a shortcut in the shell to move up one directory level that looks like this:

$ pwd
